FIBER JUNKIES - JULY SHOW AND TELL

Yesterday the Fiber Junkies met for the purpose of doing some indigo dyeing......oh my....my head is still reeling, be sure to check my post tomorrow for that report....

In the meantime...here's a small show and tell.....seems we are all so busy this summer.....finished work is not flowing as quickly as usual but the results are wonderful none the less!
Val (left) is helping Kate show off her stripy Chinese Coin type lap quilt.  It exudes summer by the sea doesn't it?  Kate has just completed stocking her blog shop....please visit her blog here and then click on her link to see what she has in the shop.
Among her many other talents, Kate really excels in the machine quilting department.  Here she brought a piece of marbleized fabric to life with her stitching.  It was dyed during a Fiber Junkie retreat last year.
Our newest member Denny shared an awesome technique.  Using scraps from previous projects.....layering them & adding machine quilting.....
.....Next, she turns them over and paints the quilted fabric, creating a usable and interesting new piece of fabric.
She hopes that this quilt will hang at a PAQA South exhibit in the near future.  Her inspiration was a photo she took depicting the stolen heads of Buddha's (taken for the gold.)  I wish you could see the fabulous job she did creating the brick background by stenciling/painting a table cloth!
We are lucky to have several members who have homes with outdoor space to accommodate our messier experiments.  These next couple of photos are the result of the hard work of Judy Simmon's husband and their son.....  With all the rain our area has been experiencing.....the result is extra lush gardens.

Be sure to stop by tomorrow for my indigo dyeing report....or become a follower of this blog to avoid missing any posts.

Isn't it nice to have friends to "play" with. I'd love to hear more about how your friend makes her "new" fabric from pieces of other projects. I really like the look.
