LOVE MY INTERNET FRIENDS!!

After whining in my last post about leaving my gallery representation of 7 years AND worrying about having to get all those pieces to the West coast....Hurrah....  Thank you Theresa for purchasing one of the framed pieces.....  Visit my online shop and connect with me if you see something you'd like to have in your home. https://marystorishop.blogspot.com

I'm so very flattered (and relieved to find a home for my work, even better when it's a long time friend.)

This is what I'm currently dealing with in my studio area.  Almost empty closets and lots and lots and lots of packed bins.....I will admit nearly all are fabrics, paints, dyes, general sewing supplies, etc.  (But you should see our garage, three times the amount and all car and tool stuff ala 'the husband'!!!)

It was once filled with fabric.....and I recall when Doreen Speckmann said to me:  "Mary, how do you make so many quilts with such a puny amount of fabric"?  Well, it's not a puny collection anymore!!

TEARFUL DAY

After 7 years of being a Woolworth Walk artist, today my best buddy Judy Simmons and I dismantled our space.  Only Asheville area artists are juried into this famous downtown gallery.

Obviously, since I'm moving out of state that meant changes.  Judy will continue in a smaller, but very visible and perfect space for her wall art as well as her beautiful hand made scarves and unique notecards.

I have NO clue what I'll do with my pieces in terms of display.... perhaps I'll find an outlet in Roseville, CA.  If you see a piece shown here that strikes you, holler and I can easily ship direct to you....please don't make me move all this!!!

Here's a look at my Woolworth space before and after view.....Plus an encouraging view of Judy's new space.  Her wall needs to be repainted and art hung, but it's nearly ready for the public.

STILL IN NC ENJOYING OUR FIBER FRENZY GROUP

The Fiber Frenzy group met at Judy's this month......wonderful show and tell, good food and ample bubbly....no project was tackled....but a lot of chatting took place.

Heather made this adorable charity quilt for some lucky Kiddo....LOVE the setting and fabrics she chose.
Kathie Briggs awed us with this beauty....similar to her tree series, but made especially by request for her husband.

                                               DETAIL

Judy made this baby quilt for a family member.....I'm in love with it.....motifs are fused & finished with button hole stitching.
Judy has a wonderful collection of family memorabilia.  She tells the story of her grandfather who worked nights and was traveling home on the train, falling asleep.  When his stop arrived and young man handed him this drawing of him.  Precious!!
Judy used her extraordinary skills and created an art quilt piece using transfer methods.   You can find her work on Facebook here:  https://www.facebook.com/judy.s.simmons

She also had a pile of pieced black and white fabric blocks....we suggested numerous ideas to assemble.  I mused instead of the more typical addition of red....perhaps adding rust....stay tuned.

MOVING IS A LOT OF WORK

This is what moving looks like....before with my ample wonderful sewing room.....to now as I begin to purge. Sadly when we finally arrive at our new downsized home, I'll be going from 13' x 35' to 13'x12.5'. BUT I'll make it work!!

January PTA (Professional Textile Artists) meeting was held at the Southern Highland Craft Center along the Blue Ridge Parkway.....Connie was our host this month. Since the holidays tended to limit sewing time we all brought items we wanted to share.....such a nice way of recycling things we no longer use!!

And here's a little bragging.....our should I say a BIG BRAG about our one and only Georgia Bonesteel......https://www.ourstate.com/meet-the-queen-of-quilts/.

CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

LOOK what I found while packing for our new life experience out West?!? This is my Raggedy Andy doll, my twin sister got Raggedy Ann. I estimate they were given to us in about 1947-48. Sadly, there is no little one to pass this onto in our family.....so I'll try to sell it. :(. Any collectors interested??

Bet a lot of you had one too....never know when fun memories will come flooding back!!!
