WINTER GAB FEST

A couple of pals and I have impromptu fiber day gatherings.....schedules don't mean too much now considering the number of winter storms we've had lately. Our go-to plan is playing with gelli printing. Turns out we were all in such need of a gab fest with adult refreshment....only one piece was printed....mine.

We also planned on a demo from me: how to make/knead yeast bread in a food processor. DONE!! First rise on the stone hearth of Judy's fireplace...and our English Muffin bread hot out of the oven. Fun time had by all!!

BIG TIME COMMITMENT

For a rather small piece this was a very big time commitment...at 60+ hrs. I stopped counting.  I'm a slow, careful sewer, preferring to pull threads to the wrong side and tie off.....both on the foundation and when quilting.  Blanket stitching each of those leaves seemed to take forever.

BUT......fussy quality work is just the way I work and customers appreciate the care taken. I thought I'd share just some of the steps taken along this journey.....

Packer fans everywhere will be collectively holding their breath at 7:15 PM CST tonight as they are glued to their TV's, radios, computers, and other devices.  The lucky ticket holders for this sold out game...including the sparse standing room only will be living their own frozen tundra experience with 12 degree temperatures.

DRAGON FLY

In response to inquiries about why I've been absent.......

"The husband" spent three days last week in ICU....undergoing a procedure to reset his heart and eliminate Afib. Details way too long, except to say he has not rallied. He was to have a nuclear stress test today but Dr. office cancelled...many roads in our area are still impassable due to our big snow/ice storm. Hoping they can reschedule him soon since he's experiencing shortness of breath and extreme tiredness.

Clearly I've been very distracted and attention has been diverted from sewing. However, I did finish up one small project that provided some welcome handwork to occupy my time during lots of sitting and waiting.

"DRAGON FLY - 13" X 13"

1ST NEW WORK 2022

I wish you could have seen the design snap shot that appeared  in my head after uncovering this colorful bamboo leaf print from my stash. The finished piece barely resembles that much larger envisioned art quilt!

After creating the center panel it was apparent my ambitious idea didn't hit the mark.....so this is the result instead.  Which by the way, I am happy with.  Narrow art pieces can be just the right addition to an area in one's home that was lacking personality.

BAMBOO LEAVES IN COLOR - 12.5" x28"
Available
Japanese cotton print, hand dyed & commercial batiks, appliqued with metallic thread & quilted.
