Mary replies....yes you are both right.....sort of......many of the Japanese fabrics I have feature BIG prints and limited colors....not good candidates for color wash. But....it's only going to be the backdrop......the applique I have planned will be the focus....assuming I can find enough of the right fabrics to make the top!
