ANIMAL WORLD

Our curious dog, Sooty thought this large snapping turtle might be a good play mate.  Black labs are always so friendly and she is no exception.

What a surprise to see this very large turtle wandering along side of our road this morning while on our 'daily forced march'.

I hope Sooty didn't get too close to it. They have a mean bite! We found one in our yard (the back of our property borders a restaurant that had a pond on the property filled with fishes and assorted turtles "courtesy" of neighbors who no longer wanted their children's pets.) My husband caught it quickly and returned it to the pond before any of the grandchildren got near it.

Arlene....hoping you signed up for comment alerts....I tried to email you but your blog has been set to no reply....so this will have to do. We are well aware of the strength and danger of a snapping turtle...... Not to worry......Sooty was kept at a safe distance...even if she nearly pulled 'the husband's' arm out of his socket!

Often turtles lay their eggs in road beds. That is when I usually see snappers and green water turtles near the road...but this is a little late for that. Glad the dog is ok, those snappers can be nasty.
