NEW SMALL WORK - RIPPLES

I'm still away teaching at the Alabama Quilt Symposium....but I thought I'd pop in and share a new small piece, finished just before I departed for the conference.
It began with some simple doodling on a scrap of paper.......
The idea was to merge some of my deconstructed screen printed silk noil with beads and hand embroidery to achieve a minimalist graphic wall piece.
Many times these deconstructed pieces are difficult to use since they have so much energy on their own and honestly....I just hate cutting them apart.  This piece provided added interest due to the nubby texture of the silk noil.  Thus the decision to use it as whole cloth.
While shopping for canvas wrapped frames, this birch frame caught my eye.  One has to be careful when purchasing canvas wraps as often the corners are poorly constructed....leaving uneven and bulky edges.  So I decided to try this style instead.  I believe it's designed to be painted...not the purpose I had in mind.
Lookie, lookie.....after wrapping the frame with a thin batting layer...the corner is still relatively tidy.  Adding the silk noil was a snap.....I'll be using this method again!
The backing is hand stitched to the edge, it's labeled and fitted with a saw-tooth hanging device.

A very successful little piece. I like the contrast of the flowing curvy lines with the straight dashes in spots.
