There aren't many aspects of living in Upper Crabtree valley in the mountains of NC. However, this year one has me totally grumpy. It's the HUGE abundance of poison ivy. I'll spare you photos of my nasty rashes.....beyond itching....they are painful.
I'm super sensitive to the stuff and we try very hard to stay away from it.....even walking Sooty (our black lab) on a short leash as this stuff is everywhere.
It's even growing in the middle of the paths we travel on our morning 'forced march'. Clearly this is not a fiber subject and my rant is an indication of how crazy it's making me!

So sorry this continues on!
I am so sorry about the poison ivy. I haven't found in our yard yet but its everywhere along the road where we walk. Good luck on healing.
Mary, I understand your pain. I also am real allergic to PI, and I have to be so careful. I do a lot of gardening, and it seems it always comes after me! I've been lucky so far this year, but it's still early. Take care of yourself - even treat yourself to something nice or tasty. So sorry you have to go through this.
Sorry to hear this Mary... Have you ever tried Bach's rescue remedy gel/cream? It really worked wonders for me...
Thank you everyone for reaching out to me, here and via email.....I now have several new suggestions that may help relieve the itching and frankly, downright pain of poison ivy!!
UGH!! That's nasty stuff and apparently nearly unavoidable in your area. Sorry you got into it. I recall from my youth having a bad case and treatments included something about naptha soap shavings- that burned like fire. And Absorbine. I'm sure there must be better treatments now. Hope you find them!
I feel your pain! I got horrible poison ivy rashes the whole time I was growing up in Pennsylvania. You need to move to the desert, like I did!
Tecnu is wonderful to use if you think you have been exposed to poison ivy... You can get it at CVS, etc.
Thank you everyone for your input....it's been very helpful. I really should post a photo of all the products on our counter top......yes, Tencnu works...sort of....for me this best one I've tried is Iverest.....reminds me of the old time calamine lotion we used as a kids.
Lemon oil for rash
Youch! I've never had the displeasure fortunately, even though I grew up tramping through the woods and brush. Apparently I got close once though, when counseling at a church camp with my husband to be. We'd found a quiet rock to sit on for a bit, away from the clamor of the kids. Then the next full meeting of everyone, the camp manager's wife alerted everyone to the existence of poison ivy around the camp, particularly she said where Allen and Sheila were sitting. Lucky, she said, that we weren't itching up a storm. Very embarrassing! Nettles were actually my nemesis, they were all along a trail from my house to a footbridge we used when walking into town. I don't know how their itching compares to poison ivy but it was not a pleasant experience. Take care and may this calm down soon.
