FALLEN LEAVES - new work

There's a certain sense of satisfaction one achieves when a lowly, single linen vintage napkin is transformed into a piece of wall art.  It was a pleasant journey!
FALLEN LEAVES - 15.5" x 15.5"
Artist ice-dyed vintage linen napkin, leaf printing on silk,
machine stitched, hand embroidered.  Fitted with hanging device.

Thank you for visiting this blog....check out what other artists have been working on this week:  Nina-Marie's Off The Wall Friday, Sarah's Whoop Whoop Friday, Crazy Mom Quilts.

Beautiful! Don't you love the way those vintage napkins take the dye?

I couldn't agree more Norma......and it's so rewarding to give a (probably somewhat tattered and stained) textile a new life.

I always love visiting your blog. You think out of the box and always come up with something unique and beautiful. What is the hanging device? It looks like it’s not layered so must be fairly light weight.

Thank you all for your flattering comments.....believe me I'm inspired by your work too! I'll address the question about the hanging device..... I planned to mount this piece on a canvas wrapped frame......which would have been covered with a complimentary fabric. BUT....I didn't have the correct size.....so after much brainstorming.....I used a piece of National Nonwoven's Woolfelt 70/30 weight as a backing. Some minor quilting was done to hold the layers together. I fashioned a 'sleeve' from two Woolfelt triangles. Rather than using a wood dowel (the profile is too thick), a sturdy piece steel rod (about 1/16" - 1/8" thick) was cut to the proper length which slides into the two triangles. I use this method a lot for the wool pieces I create.

Love this! I really must get out some of my hand dyed vintage linens.

You have selected the perfect title for this piece. I was struck by the layering of the leaves, on the central panel, echoed by the leafy vine quilted around the perimeter. Lovely.

What a pretty ice dying job, and the leaf embellishment and stitching are so nice on it.
