SUNSET/OCEAN/BEACH QUILT PROGRESS REPORT

I'm slowly finishing the sunset/ocean/beach theme wall quilt that has consumed me for nearly 2 months.  Actually that's not for lack of effort on my part.....several areas of the design perspective details were challenging to overcome for this artist who doesn't draw. These beach chairs are an example.  After scouring the internet for samples that might be suitable, many more hours were spent redrawing to achieve the correct size/shape and then recreating in fabric.  Realistic landscape isn't my strength, however stylized designs have provided a new path to explore and enjoy.

With that said, I'll go ahead and reveal some personal stuff.....thank heavens it's nothing life threatening, but definitely life altering for awhile. 'The husband' had a 6 disc cervical fusion a year ago, which failed.  That resulted in the development of several deformed vertebra, deep hollow sections in the skin, a broken screw still in his body, and constant pain.  Additional surgery to remove the titanium device and screw is very dangerous with a high failure rate so after getting additional opinions, he's decided not to risk it.  However, addressing the bulging vertebra, which sadly won't eliminate the pain, is still necessary. He'll be undergoing surgery this week and I will be a 'care-taker' again until he recovers enough to get up and about.

On top of that.....I'm facing some nasty oral surgery.....I'd rather take a greyhound bus across country - last seat by the toilet - than going to the dentist.  I'm already working myself into quite the tizzy!  I've been taking medication for osteoporosis for over 20 years and have been aware of the correlation between these meds. and jaw bone loss.....it's not common but it looks like it struck me.

So, if my posts are a tad sparse in the next couple of weeks you'll know why.  We are moving forward with positive attitudes and feeling fortunate there are solutions to our issues and as I said, these are not life threatening....just annoyances that take me away from my studio!!

When I glanced at the thumbnail photo of your post in my blog reader, I thought "Oh look, Mary's at the beach!" I thought it was a very lovely and artful photograph! This is just beautiful with a meditative quality. Keep it nearby in the coming weeks, I'm sure some peaceful relaxation and meditative moments will be needed. I'm so sorry to hear that your husband is facing surgery yet again and that he is experiencing such pain. And your procedure is very challenging, too. Thankful that the skills the medical professionals are blessed with will be beneficial for both of you. Prayers sent, and post us when you can.

Your piece fondly reminds me of our families happy place the cottage. I think for a non-drawer you have captured it really well!

Health problems can for sure drag you down and tie you up for awhile. Pain is so trying! and tiring! Sending positive thoughts!

Love the piece... coming along beautifully.. lots of nostalgia for those of us that enjoy the beach.
Blessings that all goes well for your hubby, and the dentist... I have been putting off a root canal... and know that soon, I will have to make the commitment! Find a way to relax and take it a day at a time..

So sorry to hear that both you and your husband are looking at procedures. Best of luck to both of you and I'll be channeling positive thoughts your way. Keep thinking about all the quilty-projects you've imagined in your head that are waiting for you once you feel up to it again.

This is coming along nicely. I too sometimes have to hunt down images on-line or check my photo reference files in order to add details like this. I've lately discovered that I really can't draw much of anything close to accurately just out of my head, although I think I used to be able to. Looking forward to seeing the completed composition you are working so diligently on. :-)

As for the rest, I've been thinking about the hubby, knowing this procedure was coming up soon, but I wasn't aware of your own issue requiring some major work. I chuckled at your example of just how much you hate dentistry. I am tempted to add - "and sleep in a 1 star hotel where a mint on the pillow would have already been snatched away by vermin." lol Wish I could come be real support for you - admire your positive attitude. Heck, may as well be positive because you can't avoid this. As you say, thank goodness for solutions. Sending big hugs!
