FOREST FIRES

Our area has been experiencing dry weather since the spring.....it's now officially being called a drought.  I've never really worried about wild fires before....but now one can't help but pay attention to this very real risk.
This is the view looking East from Gen's house in Hendersonville toward the largest and growing fire in the Party Rock area.
Unfortunately, it's hitting closer to home....it took nearly 3 hrs. to travel what should have been an hour + drive home from Gen's.  Interstate I40 going just West of Asheville was down to less than one lane as another fire popped up along the highway/ridge.

No rain expected in the future.....the fires we so often hear about in the West are getting all too real for many of us.

Welcome to our world. Best advice I can give is be ready to evacuate. Have a plan. Put things in a specific place to pack your car(s), including pet and supplies for him. There are so many sites available to give you assistance, and DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE FIRE IS CLOSE. Do it now and you are ready and you won't forget things. Have your important papers and documents separated and put in a binder or box to put in car. Have food and water. Have blankets and clothes. Being prepared is the best thing you can do for yourself. Hope it does not come to this....

I was wondering about you when I heard about the fires. Not sure about the kids and their area. Hubby sent a message so hope to hear. Be safe and keep the hose at the ready!!

Thank you for the helpful advice......it's very much appreciated......so far so good for our specific area though today it was super hazy and smelled of smoke even in the house.

How frightening this must be for you all, I pray the fires get under control. My Dad got caught up in a bush fire in Australia ehen he was a yong man he said it was terrifying.
I see you have had some good advice from Jackie

What a concern for you and those in your area. The smoke travels and really does impact the air quality over a long distance. That was excellent advice from Jackie. Hope conditions improve. Prayers for the firefighters- such a dangerous but essential job!

Be safe! I don't think of forest fires in November.

Thank you Sherrie....and everyone else who have taken the time to contact me. So far, despite the harsh smell of smoke and the deep haze.....the fires are not very close to us. My thoughts turn to those who are fighting the fires for us!!
