LUFT WASSER 2021

Well over a year in the planning after the cancellation of Luft Wasser 2020, the day was finally here.  Luft Wasser Definition:  Water to Air.....which spans both the water cooled and air cooled Porsches.

After a really foggy start at 7:00 AM in Waynesville, NC we lead a line of 11 Porsches over the mountains to Brevard, NC.  We admired the fall color which has already arrived in the higher elevations in the Pisgah National Forest.

As you can see by the view from our lead vehicle this early in the morning, happily there are few cars on the narrow, steep, twisty roads to slow us down!!

It's such an honor and pleasure for our club to share our vehicles with the public....There were many rare cars delighted even us die hard Porsche fans.  Photo compliments of Jim Moore.

My pal Dianne spotted this funny ditty on this handsome Carrera GTS. The weather was perfect and it was so great to visit with old and new friends!!

13 ANNUAL FIBER GROUP GET AWAY

 After a couple of days at our 13th annual PTA (Professional Textile Artists) Retreat.....I'm now home, fat/happy/exhausted. 

My project was an Ispy baby quilt....top now finished and final assembly will be attacked as soon as I rest up!!

It takes a surprising amount of time to dig through my stash of Japanese fabrics to locate just the right prints for selective cutting into patches.

The process provides lovely focal points so it's worth the effort!

MOONLIGHT YOGA

 The ideas for unique silhouette small wall art pieces continue to flow. Because they require a lot of handwork, they're fairly time consuming, yet relaxing to create at the same time.

This is the first one secured in a white frame. I was dubious about my choice, but it got 'the husband's' thumbs up so I stuck with it.  Hope you enjoy this departure as well.           Now available.

SPIRIT OF JAPAN

 I've fallen far behind posting my ongoing projects....for a very good reason. Adding to my dwindling inventory has almost become a full time job, which is a very good problem to have. Here's one of my recent pieces. 

                              SPIRIT OF JAPAN  - 46" X 52.5"

Japanese cottons, quilted with metallic thread (which behaved quite well stitching long straight lines). Narrow red flanges help to visually highlight the different strips. Prepared for hanging with fabric sleeve.

MY MACHINE IS HUMMING

After several years of working through a very large inherited collection of Japanese fabrics, I'm enjoying the process more and more.  It's a fun challenge figuring out how to feature these fabrics, which not only can be very busy, but not my typical style.

 As is my normal procedure, I spend a lot of time auditioning layouts before stitching begins.  I tend to work slow and methodical....even though my mind wants me to race much faster!

SHOW AND TELL OF MY FIBER BUDDIES

Here's some eye candy created by some of my fiber pals.  Inspiration oozes from each and every one. 

Kathie has taken to her heat press & eco printing like a duck to water.  She's not only printed foliage, she's already made four stunning pieces.  I love how she creatively highlighted the prints, but didn't just rely on them as the entire subject matter.  

Judy always approaches any technique like a research project.  She's printed and printed and printed samples, each using different fiber content, mordants, dips, etc.  Those details are documented in her short hand code on the bottom and corners of each piece.  I truly can't wait to see how she uses these heat pressed prints!  They speak Judy's design color/mood to perfection.

Susan brought two wonderful pieces created by masking black fabric, machine free motion quilting, and then painted over the stitching.  Texture and interest galore.

Our friend Denny from SC joined us on our pop up microwave ice-dyeing day.  I wasn't able to take photos of the numerous print outs she brought of her most recent spectular art quilts.  So detailed and interesting one could study them for days!!

Her work was recently on display at The Arts & Heritage Center of North Augusta, SC.  The show is now closed but anyone who got to visit was very lucky as Denny rarely displays her work.

Yes, I am a very lucky gal to have such talented like-minded friends!!!

LOVE THAT MICROWAVE DYEING

 Seems like forever since gathering with fiber pals to do some fabric dyeing! It was worth the wait...but of course wish it hadn't been necessary. Five of us spent a beautiful, perfect temperature sunny day in the mountains of NC micro-wave ice dyeing. Even with 5 participants (only appx. 4-8 mins. for each batch) we all dyed a lot.

My stack is already washed, dried, and pressed....whispering....pick me, pick me!!
