WISH I'D THOUGHT OF THIS SOONER

 When creating one-of-a-kind art quilts, it's not uncommon to find yourself wishing you'd have thought of this or that detail sooner. It took awhile come up with a solution for this problem.

I belatedly decided to add lettering onto one of the major design motifs.  Sure, there's lots of methods to do that prior to securing the piece onto the quilt.  But once the design is in place, choices are limited and proceeding with caution to avoid running the entire piece is prudent.

After dismissing several approaches, I dug out a plastic stencil and traced the word onto fabric to test size and font acceptability.  Next, I considered using the stencil directly onto the motif and tracing with a black permanent pen but the potential for a mistake was too great.

Instead I used tracing paper & scrap fabric to practice a varity of stitching methods to transfer the lettering by hand and machine.

Finally, with some trepidation, paper was taped to the motif and the letters were stitched by machine.  Did this work?  Not exactly but the issue was resolved.
