TREES IN SILHOUETTE

5 hours here, 3 hours there, over and over again.....eventually a project gets born.
As I mentioned recently, a friend's fabulous scenic photos inspired me to dig out this dyed painted fabric....it was just waiting for the right idea!
The paper templates turned into fractured tree images.
Next came lots and lots of machine stitching to provide texture, each tree section is heavily stitched.  The background is closely machine quilted. I thought the piece was complete, but then I had another idea.....
TREES IN SILHOUETTE 33" X 18.5"
Dye-painted cotton, applique, machine stitched.

I love those tree shapes - they are so within the style you have developed for dealing with trees in a less realistic way. These reminded me of a conversation in that Sketchbook Skool class I'm still working my way through. A student asked the teacher whose focus was urban sketching adding watercolor how to deal with foliage on trees and bushes. Her reply was don't try to draw every single leaf but just work in the watercolor in the general overall shape. And that is what you've done here.

And that other idea you had - those birds! They bring such life and interest. Just love this.
