NEEDLE FLYING
It's been marathon sewing here the last two weeks. I'm fortunate to have a venue to exhibit my work that enables me to display both large and small works.
The quilting (which is not shown here - diagonal double lines with metallic thread) is in progress on this 61" sq. piece. I expect the art quilt to be available next week. I'm kinda ignoring everything else as I'm excited to complete it.

MOVING RIGHT ALONG
The stitching is now complete....and it was quickly slapped onto the design wall, not for it's formal portrait, esp. since it's very crooked, but I wanted it out of the way while I arranged the backing and batting on my cutting table in preparation for basting.
Over the last couple of years I've created many Japanese inspired art quilts but this color scheme is new for me.....what a pleasure to work with unfamiliar colors. Yes, it's my version of the traditional Chinese Coins, of which I've made two previous pieces. Both sold so I it seemed sensible to go with success!Tuesday, March 23, 2021
AUDITIONING FABRICS
Now that my commission piece is finished, my attention snapped right to a large box of small pieces of beautiful Japanese fabrics, way too lovely not to figure out how to utilize them.
My current thinking is it will be arranged in a 'Japanese' Coin setting....taking the idea from the historic Chinese Coin pattern. It's been a bit challenging to coordinate color and pattern, many of these prints are VERY busy. Yet, I'm am moving right along and enjoying the process.Friday, January 29, 2021
CROSSROADS
I'm pleased to share my latest Japanese inspired quilt. The process was unusually challenging. In my experience, the less complicated the design appears, the more extra care that is required because every misstep will become much more compounded & visible. I'm needing a better photo but for now here's the final look.

GINKGO LEAF QUILT IN PROGRESS
Rarely do the original designed art quilts I create end up as envisioned. Actually, rarely do I have a clear vision at the start. This one is still transforming itself......from a skimpy number of ginkgo leaves and potential additional motifs to more leaves and other motifs.... Still not satisfied....more auditioning to go.....
