Just completed: modest size, big impact......
Hand-dyed cottons, appliqued, heavily machine stitched,
machine embroidered, and quilted. Faced edges, prepared
with fabric hanging sleeve.
Makes me hear the birds chirping their last calls of the day, as well as the coolness which comes as the sun sets. Lovely.
Thank you Darlene.....you have such a fantastic way with words.....makes my pieces look even better when you describe them!!
Not surprised this sold so fast. It is truly spectacular in every way. Perfect balance, perfect sparse scattering of different values of leaves, nice angle of the branch leading the eye across the piece. You are getting so good at this type of design.
Glad you sold this lovely piece. Love the way the colours flow. Looks like you may have done the machine quilting before you added the tree. Just a fabulous effect.
Answering Laura......yes, it was heavily machine stitched through the background which had been appliqued to my favorite stabilizer, Pellon light non-fusible. Next came the tree (solid black batik) which was blanket stitched in place, then the individual leaves (a variety of hand-dyed greens) also blanket stitched in position....finally the birds which are Ultra-suede.
