A look back: Sitting on my self was a stack of previously cut black/white rectangles. I was looking for what I thought would be a quick project to get my creativity jelling after quite a long layoff as I was playing nurse maid to 'the husband'. Now nearly 8 weeks post surgery, I'm almost ready to declare he's on his own! Wishful thinking but perhaps after another 8 weeks I can say that out loud.
So....after some fast piecing, well never fast for me (patchwork is not my favorite construction technique). I ended up with the piece above. It didn't take me long to realize the design was awkward. What to do?? Well, I whacked off several inches from the top, hummm....still not right. So I whacked off another couple of inches. Hummm, hummmm......oh well.....next I cut off a bigger hunk from the bottom. Now I had 3 leftover sections.
Which yielded two wall quilts from one poorly designed one.
AND THEN THERE WAS COLOR
20" X 24.5"
TWO RED LINES

Excellent solutions. Both pieces are now quite dramatic. The 'layoff' hasn't hurt you at all!
I agree with Kathy, both pieces are great.
Very nice! I liked all of your "audition" photos from earlier post with the different colors inserted, and you found a way to execute two of them. Black and white fabrics are such good starters for a dramatic piece (or two).
Love them both.
Love them both but especially the black, white and red...both are stunning....anxious for your input at Fiber Junkies...
Great creativity on both pieces!
Very good! I love your solution. Also, very glad to see the thin red line has returned.
Companion pieces! Ooo - and red in the binding too. Do you have more of the b&w rectangles? You could do a series of these adding color in different ways. I'm wondering how running a diagonal of color would look. Or maybe you're done with this. :-)
Perfect...i never believed all those comments about 'happy accidents' or 'design opportunities' but guess that happened well for you!!!
Donna J. Sorry I was unable to respond to your directly.....you appear to be a no-comment blogger with no contact info and for some reason your comment isn't able to be posted to my blog. But....in case you read the comments again......know I too grew up in Wisconsin.......less than an hour from Lambeau Field........the Packers are in my blood too. How generous of you to give up your ticket for this game........Wow....... GO PACK GO!!!
Good choice on the fearless whacking off this and that, adding here and there until it comes together. Nicely done!
your hacking has been a great success now 2 hangings so stiking with the splash of colour on each one. Good to read DH is so much better and you can now get back to doing what you love
Beautiful way to display the color. Pretty finish.
Looking good! A very nice save for both of them.
