I've been busy......Fall tourists have been good for business. And that means I've been hard at work creating new pieces. Hope you enjoy seeing this one.
I have to ask, again. Do you satin stitch around all your appliques? With just the fusible for stabilizer, or something more? So, so perfect! And a beautiful design!
To answer Carole's questions....yes, still working with what is now dwindling of a big stash of Japanese fabrics. It's frankly getting more difficult as most of the large focal motif pieces have been used. Now for Kathy's - For any applique project I either use a narrow blanket stitch or in this case a very narrow zig zag....that is not close enough in width to be called a satin stitch. I find satin stitching tends to distort and pucker the background when there are a lot of motifs such as this design.
Oh....sorry Kathy......yes I use a fusible.....still the old favorite, reliable....Paper backed Wonder-Under and for this quilt I used Dr. exam paper beneath each leaf.....I pull all threads to the back of the quilt top and tie off....then removed the paper....sigh....time consuming but I don't like the look of my machine's tie off function.
Enjoy indeed. This strikes me as a departure from your previous Japanese fabric quilts and I like it. I especially like the back. That crane fabric is difficult to come to terms with cutting it up. I love the way the cranes soar across it and glad you found this use for it.

Love this, such a great design! You are still working down those Japanese fabrics, aren't you!
