PT Torture

 Entering 7th post surgery week and obviously very frustrated by this long rehab process.  PT is as painful as everyone warned....but necessary...

Here's my current least favorite exercise - ouch, ouch, ouch....

It's going to be awhile before I can sew again.   Grrr! I'm trying to remind myself that everyone has assured me in the end, they were happy they had the surgery.....I AM NOT THERE YET!!

SHOULDER SURGERY UPDATE

 

4 weeks post surgery…. I’m still in misery most of the time.  Been trying to gear up to write an update but just so hard with left finger & big padded sling on right side hitting keyboard.

Had 7 incisions - 3 separate rotary cuff tears - 2 partial & 1 full thickness = complete detachment.  Plus bone spurs removed & repair to AC joint and deltoid.  I’m not even going to pretend to be stoic…..pain has been awful.  Woke up in recovery unable to open and see from left eye….no one could figure out why….back to normal in 3 days with a variety of eye meds they had me trying.   I Started PT about 2 weeks ago which will continue till at least SEPT. 1.   It too is AS AWFUL AS EXPECTED BUT OF COURSE NECESSARY.  I must be getting somewhat better because I’m really bored now….…right side useless since it’s so difficult to do much of anything.  However, I can easily pick up my glass of bubbly!!  

Spending time doing home PT exercises & icing my shoulder.  Some photos attached of the equipment - though the ice machine is now gone.  $$ to rent and for some stupid reason there was only 1 size shoulder pad - wayyyyy to big for me so it had to be velcroed in place with confusing number of straps which attached themselves to the excess number of padded velcro sling straps …..creating velcro hairballs that were impossible to attach and remove with only one good hand.

This is all I can manage for now…….but two weeks ago I couldn’t even do this much.   Excuse typos...

BRATWURST CAPITAL OF THE WORLD!

 A nod to my home town, Sheboygan, WI. I will admit I've probably eaten a minimum of one brat a week nearly my entire life. My favorite Miesfeld's brat is Jalapeño Cheese!

SMELLING THE ROSES

 Lately our weather has been feeling like those muggy, hot Wisconsin summers I'm so familiar with. Never-the-less I proceeded with my morning 'forced march' in the semi-fog today. The midst made me pay attention to my immediate surroundings as I hustled down the roads.

Sooty wasn't impressed with this small painted turtle that seemed out of place on a hill above one of the creeks that run through our community. Spiders were busy overnight and their work shone like jewels as the sun began to peak through the midst. I need to do a better job of being aware & appreciating the smaller things in life!

Oh how I love creating art quilts!!  I realize we are still in the midst of summer, but we also know how fast this season disappears......this is piece is ready now for your consideration...

Mary Stori wood grain cotton print, designed for Kona Bay Fabrics. Artist ice-dyed cotton leaves, machine appliquéd, machine quilted & secured in a black wood frame without glass.

 Usually I'm driven to complete a project, but I'm actually trying to slow down and simply enjoy playing with fabric while I can! Savoring the experience.......

There will be more, but for now...here's the start of adding some leaves growing along a wooden structure.  

MARY STORI FABRIC DESIGNED FOR KONA BAY

 Feeling in limbo, not wanting to start a big project knowing it will be on hold during my upcoming shoulder recovery period....having something started and sitting there and not being able to work on it would drive me over the edge!  

So....I decided to organize my fabric closet. I abandoned that task rather quickly when I came across a bag of fabric I designed years ago for Kona Bay. It consisted of brick, shingles, & wood prints. Next thing I know, I was working on a small piece that will be framed....feels so good to be creating!!

 Finishing this piece before my upcoming shoulder surgery was unexpected.  However, after days of making book covers, I was ready to dig into this project.

The size was purposeful.....making it just right to hang over a sofa, above a dining room buffet, an entrance or stairwell wall.

A REMINDER TO SELF.....

I have been getting very cold feet about my upcoming shoulder surgery....really....why am I going to go through that?!? All it took to shake that idea out of the way was a few hours of machine quilting on this piece. Oh ya....now I remember why it's not good to try to live with tears in one's rotary cuff!  

After a few days rest for the now again very aching shoulder, I'll add more straight line quilting between the original stitching.
