After last week's disappointment......we will be holding our breath when the Packers take on the Lions today....

YUP.....it's football season and happily the game is on TV tonight.  We'll be cheering the Green Bay Packers as they take on the Minnesota Vikings. Like most NFL teams, rivals are part of the football experience.  Wisconsin is located ajacent to Minnesota, Illinois and Michigan.....all with NFL teams.  Strong feelings abound.....it's hard to tell whether the Vikings, the Bears, or the Lions are disliked the most!!

The Vikings are starting the year with a high rating.....so hopefully the Pack will have what it takes to come home with a win.

I'll be wearing my lucky socks my friend Gen hand knitted for me......

CONTINUING TRADITION - PACKERS BIKE RIDING

WARNING.....this is not a fiber related post......nope....it's nearly football season and that means all eyes in this household turn toward Green Bay, Wisconsin.  Given that I grew up less than a hour away from Lambeau Field....The Packers are truly in my blood.

As is often the case, traditions evolve on their own....not force fed.  They say the now hallowed practice of players riding kid's bikes from the locker room to the practice field may have begun in 1959.  Some believe one or two players who arrived late asked the local youngsters who were hanging around in the parking lot if they could ride their bike to the field....hoping to arrive mostly on time.

 By the 1970's the once sporadic  bike trek, became embedded.  The Green Bay Packers are often referred to as "America's Team".  The only publicly owned, non-profit NFL franchise!  Today it's a family affair.....father's bringing the newest fans to watch the parade of bikes (and kids lending the bike).....making their way from the stadium to the practice field.

It's good to see this guy back.....whoo hoo for Jordy Nelson.  Here's another tradition, spoken revently by Packer backers........GO PACK GO!!!!

The first preseason game is Aug. 7th....GO PACK GO!!!!

PACKERS BYE WEEK

Well.....it will be a quiet Sunday for us today.....as the Packers have a Bye week. My Packer gear awaits next weeks' Sunday night game when the Pack play the Broncos.....should be a nail biting game!!

SCOREBOARD KNIT A LONG

I'm currently not a knitter.....however, I did make a few sweaters 40+ years ago....but that was the extent of my knit and purl experience.  

My pal Lynn is in the process of knitting this cowl......following the guidelines on Scoreboard Knit A Long.  It's a great concept for football widows.....or football fans to embrace.

Here's Lynn's explanation.....obviously....she's another Green Bay Packer fan:  All Packers points are knit in green, opponents are yellow - one row for each point - and white indicates the end of a game.  So, from top down....... Packers vs. Bears, white end of game rows, Packers vs. Seahawks, end of game white rows.  I sure hope there's A LOT more green than yellow by the end of the season.  I'm all set for Monday night's game ---- I'll be knitting frantically every time someone scores.  Great fun!!!!!

So all you knitters......get out those needles and yarn in your teams colors and start knitting.  With only 2 (or possibly 3) games played.....you can catch up!  And thank you Lynn for sharing this novel way to marry football and fiber!

HERE WE GO AGAIN

Yup.....it's that time again......and surely this will be OUR year for the Packers to go all the way......and take back the Lombardi Trophy.

BTW - I'm not the only relocated Wisconsin extreme Packer fan...around here.....my dear friend Lynn has a 'to die for' Bernina and she's skilled at using it.  Look at these Packer backer dish towels she gifted me.....thank you Lynn....

WHAT SUPER BOWL?!?

Bitter???  Probably....but our hope for the Packers to be in the Super Bowl is now as fuzzy and distant as this helmet.  Of course there is always next year.

ME???  Nope......I couldn't care less which team wins....both have shown such unsportsmanlike behavior!

So....Instead I'm binge watching season 4 of Nurse Jackie......now there's enlightenment for you......

It's okay......I'm done feeling sad about the devastating Packer loss......in my humble opinion....Seattle didn't win as much as the Packers lost.  Like they say, there's always next year!

What we've waited for all year.....the final match up....Packers vs Lions...the division championship is on the line.  It's a home game for the PACK.....their win record at Lambeau Field is very positive.

No Robbie....after miracle endings all year by the Lions....there won't be one today!!!

What can I say.....he's the greatest!!!  In case you aren't keeping up with the important things....#12 is our QB......Aaron Rodgers......

Our flags (yes multiple) are flying, our clothing is laid out, Sooty will be donning her Packer jersey....and we will be glued to the TV come game time......as I type this the Kohl's Countdown clock has that at  8 hours  21 mins. and 49 seconds....

ANOTHER BIG GAME

Well.....if you follow my blog enough....you know I'm an avid Green Bay Packer fan......win or lose......I'm a fan. They are the only community owned franchise in American professional sports major leagues.  I grew up about 45 mins. from Lambueau Field.....when the Packers play....Wisconsin stops to listen or watch.

The weather won't be very harsh tonight as they face the Atlanta Falcons.  Our flags are flying and we all have on our lucky shirts.     GO PACK GO!!!!!
