Fall??  Heck, spring hasn't even arrived yet.  I'm preparing for a fall exhibit......perhaps this piece will find a home before then.  Love any excuse to work on a specific theme art quilt!

WELL DESEREVED PLAY DATE

Several of my fiber pals got together to print fabric in Kathie's fabulous spacious studio.

We each had our own space and got so engaged in our projects none of us even took pictures!  A variety of methods were utilized, but for me it was an opportunity to create some gelli print pieces destined to be used in upcoming landscape pieces.

Here's my results......

NATURE IS ON MY MIND

Typically I prefer to stablize my work prior to adding any stitching or motifs. It not only provides strength but texture as well. That's because I often work with whole cloth.

My go to stablizer is Pellon lightweight non-fusible interfacing which I purchase by the bolt.  Here I'm simply stitching the two layers together using my walking foot and a wavy stitch pattern. The color of this first photo isn't accurate....the background is more like the 2nd one.

Motifs follow......often fused applique which are always edge stitched....generally with a small blanket stitch.  Stay tuned won't you??

KING OF THE MARSH

Fitting in time to create a new project has been difficult since 'the husand' is still be doctoring and I too have endured a medical procedure.....but we Wisconsin folk are hardy and onward we march!!
I've been hanging onto this piece of ice-dyed silk noil....just waiting for the right design idea to develop.....Some auditioning took place and I was committed.
It was a rather lighter weave which required stabilizing, PLUS dense background stitching to provide body and visual depth.  (And oh ya...a lot of time at the machine!)
KING OF THE MARSH  -  25" x 17"
Now available in my online gallery shop
Artist ice-dyed silk noil & cottons, machine appliqued and quilted. Double fold binding of same silk noil material and fabric hanging sleeve attached.

WINTER GAB FEST

A couple of pals and I have impromptu fiber day gatherings.....schedules don't mean too much now considering the number of winter storms we've had lately. Our go-to plan is playing with gelli printing. Turns out we were all in such need of a gab fest with adult refreshment....only one piece was printed....mine.

We also planned on a demo from me: how to make/knead yeast bread in a food processor. DONE!! First rise on the stone hearth of Judy's fireplace...and our English Muffin bread hot out of the oven. Fun time had by all!!

BIG TIME COMMITMENT

For a rather small piece this was a very big time commitment...at 60+ hrs. I stopped counting.  I'm a slow, careful sewer, preferring to pull threads to the wrong side and tie off.....both on the foundation and when quilting.  Blanket stitching each of those leaves seemed to take forever.

BUT......fussy quality work is just the way I work and customers appreciate the care taken. I thought I'd share just some of the steps taken along this journey.....
