OREGON THEME WALL QUILT

Recently I've made mention of an Oregon theme wall quilt I've been working on.....a wedding gift for my nephew and his lovely bride.  Though this type of quilt is definitely not a style I feel confident about designing, it turned out to be a fun challenge.
It started out simple enough......a foreground, distant mountain, and blue sky.
Next came a river, some trees, rocks, etc.
Eventually, it all came together.  My plan had been to finish the edges with a facing, but given all the layers and stiffness of the dense quilting, a binding became a better choice. To retain the cleanest look possible, I used a single fold binding, pieced to match the adjoining fabric. Careful measuring was required to assure the curved sections matched perfectly....even though this photo doesn't seem as if they will.

  11. I could move in. You have captured one of my favorite landscapes styles so well. I've been known to match my binding in pieces to the quilt, too. :) It takes some effort, but so worth it, as you proved. What particularly struck me was your fabric choices and how the captured the dappled light and shadow created by clouds and trees.

  12. You have done such a good job on this. Great balance in the design with your additions of various size of trees, ferns, rocks which also give it so much depth and believability. And the matched binding leaves me speechless! Having done a few match-ups myself, I know what care has to go into such a thing, but the results are always worth the extra effort. Your nephew and bride had better be thrilled! You've done a marvelous job of designing to their request imho. And I can tell you are pleased to have stepped up to the challenge.
